Danny MacAskill is a pro street trials rider who comes from Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. When Danny rocketed to fame in 2009, the Inspired Factory Team rider achieved an unusual thing – not only did he have mountain bikers in awe of him but BMX freestylers too. There are very few riders who can live with his level of technical ability and so I’ve included 3 of his films in this section.
The first clip is the one that shot him to fame “April 2009”. It shows Danny tricking his way through Edinburgh (and still leaves you staring in wonder) using the ‘raw’ skills that form the basis for his more recent works.
The 2nd film I’ve included will probably seem a weird choice for many but I’ve included it as it graphically demonstrates the dedication you need to achieve the elite level Danny has. The clip shows Danny performing tricks at the age of 15, and showing enough ability to outride most people on the planet, yet it was another 8 years before he hit the big time with “April 2009”. Danny revealed in a BBC interview that it took him several hours of practice each day for over 12 years to achieve what he showcased in his first film.
The third film is Danny’s most recent offering. Apart from liking “A Wee Day Out” I’ve included it as it shows how far Danny has taken those same core tricks from 2009 and developed them into something different.
If you’re going to take the time to practice, practice like the elite.
