This weekend sees the start of the UCI world downhill championships in Lourdes, France. Last year was Lourdes first time on the calendar, so this year the riders would have been expecting to be more comfortable with the track except heavy rain has been making conditions treacherous on the technical track.
As far as the men are concerned, Loic Bruni took the World Champs at the end of last season, has won the downhill event at Crankworx Rotorua and he’s now topped the qualifying on home soil so the signs are there for a first win of the season and looking ominous for the rest of the pack during the season ahead.
For the women Rachael Atherton looked unstoppable last year and the loss of Emmeline Ragot after her retirement will leave a big gap in her wake. Tahnee Seagrave has been maturing though and with her taking the qualification by 3 seconds over Rachael it’ll be an interesting day tomorrow.
Qualifying results are below and you can find all the action on Red Bull TV from 13.30 (BST) tomorrow (Sunday 10/April/2016).
Let the fun begin!
