So Crankworx Rotorua 2016 is all over and it was quality.
Top of the results headlines for me were Anneke Beerten opening the defence of her 2015 Queen of Crankworx title with a win in the Giant Toa Enduro and second place in the pump track challenge presented by RockShox, Loic Bruni making it 2 out of 2 Crankworx Rotorua downhill titles in the iXS sponsored event and Brandon Semenuk beating Nicholi Rogatkin and Brett Rheeder to take the slopestyle event run in memory of McGazza. For the full results head to the Crankworx results pages and if you missed any or all of the events (or maybe just want to watch them over again) then you can watch them from the comfort of your own home at CWX TV.
As well as the competitions the event fittingly paid tribute to Kelly McGarry who tragically passed away earlier this year when suffered a heart attack while riding near Queenstown. The 33-year-old Kiwi star was probably best known for his 72ft backflip over the Canyon Gap at Red Bull Rampage in 2013 but was also responsible for building the Rotorua slopestyle course along with his building partner Tom Hey – Elevate Course Building. Kelly had been working on a promotional film for Crankworx Rotorua in conjunction with the New Zealand tourist board which has now been released as a memorial film – Kelly vs The Volcano.
