It was a bit misty, a bit damp and a bit cool at Penmachno yesterday but it all combined to make some surprisingly nice riding conditions. It’s a love hate relationship I have with this place because, for me, there’s a bit too much pedalling & I get particularly frustrated at the amount of pedalling you have to do on some of the single track sections at the start of Dolen Machno. The reason I regularly make the 1 hour 45 trip from my house, however, is partly because of the cardiovascular challenge but mainly for the fast downhill single track – there’s not much gradient but you can’t half pick up speed. Its the first time I rode the new sections at the end of Dolen Machno too – well built and I loved riding them but I don’t go to Penmachno for the well groomed, all weather trail surfaces so I kinda found it a bit unsettling to see them. Hopefully they’ll stay the exception and not the rule and a little quirk of the place to compliment the amazing riding to be had there.
